Guide / Energy

How to track your energy without becoming a spreadsheet.

Energy is not a number. It is a pattern that connects sleep, training, food, and mood.

Most people who try to track energy give up within two weeks. The reason is that they try to track the symptom instead of the system. They log how tired they feel each day, see no useful pattern, and quit. Energy is not a single metric. It is the output of four or five inputs interacting. To track it, you have to track the inputs honestly and let the system find the connection. This is how.

Track inputs, not the feeling

Stop logging energy as a number from one to ten. The number is too lossy and your perception is too biased. Instead log the inputs: sleep duration and quality, last meal time, last training session, current stress, hydration. The energy will reveal itself when the inputs are visible. The Witness handles this in fifteen seconds a day, by asking only the questions that change.

Look for the lagging signal

Energy drops are usually downstream of something three days earlier. A bad night of sleep on Sunday shows up as poor focus on Wednesday. A skipped meal on Monday shows up as Tuesday irritability. Most people miss this because they look at today's energy in isolation. The pattern lives in the lag. A connected system holds your last seven days side by side and shows the lines you cannot see.

Watch for the cluster, not the spike

One bad day means nothing. Three bad days in a row means the system is shifting. The skill is noticing the cluster early enough to intervene before it becomes a crash. Cross-Intelligence in VÆN flags clusters across The Witness, Playmaker, and Forge. Your sleep dropped, your training tanked, and your meals got worse. The system tells you. You adjust. You do not crash on Friday.

Adjust one input at a time

When the pattern shows up, the temptation is to fix everything. Do not. Pick one input. Move it. Watch what happens to the others. This is how you learn what your specific system needs. Some people are sleep-leveraged. Others are food-leveraged. Most do not know which because they have never isolated. The right system makes isolation cheap.

Energy is the output of a connected system. Track the inputs honestly, watch the lag, adjust one variable at a time. The pattern will appear within thirty days.
